Oskar Rebstein was born in Zurich. Even as a child he was intensively involved with
Painting and drawing. The previous burden of an artistic family already came into play here. After the death of his mother, he became increasingly interested in art and art history. In the process, he developed a passionate love of painting, nurtured by forward-thinking teachers who recognized his talent. He attended the Zurich School of Applied Arts to refine and perfect his technique.
Between Impressionism and Expressionism
With his pictures, the artist eludes quick and superficial interpretation. His pictures are the expressionistic expression of his moods and impressions. He is also an admirer of Paul Klee and Franz Marc. His paintings are always preceded by a phase of internalization of a theme, until it "erupts" via hand and brush onto canvas or paper. The compositions are therefore actual mood diagrams by the artist, which leave plenty of room for the viewer's own interpretations. Many of his works tempt you to pause and think.
